New BeginningsThe new UAB Women & Infants Center is scheduled to open in early Spring 2010. Heather Lee shares her experience with the world-class-care offered by UAB. The new 430,000 square-foot UAB Women & Infants Center boasts state-of-the-art technology and amenities not found anywhere else.
UAB's Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has 45 private rooms, including special rooms for twins and triplets. The RNICU is the largest in the country. For little ones moving from the RNICU, but not quite ready to go home, we offer a special-care Continuing Care Nursery with 40 private rooms, including rooms for twins. The main labor and delivery area offers 17 labor, delivery and recovery rooms as well as 13 maternity evaluation rooms. There are also four cesarean-section suites complemented by a five-room post-anesthesia recovery unit where well newborns can stay with mom.
There are 59 private rooms for ante and postpartum care with all amenities available to our patients during their stay.
Additionally, neonatology and maternal-fetal medicine specialists are on-site at all times to assist mothers and babies. Communication between medical professionals is enhanced by wireless telemetry and utilization of wireless communications badge worn by all nurses that allows communication across the various units.
