Fetal Diagnosis and Care Center

Having a baby is one of the most exciting times in a woman’s life. But that happiness can also come with worry when faced with the possibility that an unborn baby may have medical complications or congenital problems. Physicians within the UAB Fetal Diagnosis and Care Center are working to ease some of that worry and improve outcomes by providing expectant mothers with a comprehensive model of care.

Mothers facing this reality can sit down with a medical team that covers every specialty related to maternity and beyond. This includes physicians within Maternal Fetal Medicine, Neonatology and Pediatric Surgery as well as Cardiology, Urology, Nephrology, Neurosurgery and Genetics.

This care model is a reality at UAB. Expectant mothers are able to have a roundtable discussion with a partnership of the highly specialized physicians they may require based on their baby’s specific needs. This team will work together to provide multidisciplinary, comprehensive care for mother and for baby prior to birth. This eliminates multiple appointments to see specialists individually, and allows the patient the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers from a team of doctors.

UAB is a leader in the diagnosis and treatment of abnormalities of unborn infants in Alabama and the Southeast. And, because we are the only multidisciplinary prenatal diagnosis clinic in Alabama, we can provide services not available at other medical facilities in the state.
