General Clinic Information
We are located on the 5th floor of The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital. Our office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Please call 205.801.8986.
To schedule an appointment, please call 205.801.8986. In the event that you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please call either of the numbers listed above. If possible, we appreciate your cancellation at least 24 hours in advance.
In addition, we ask that you please call our clinic to confirm your appointment 4-5 business days prior to your scheduled visit. If you do not call to confirm, your appointment may be given to another patient and we will be unable to guarantee you a spot in clinic on that day. If you are more than 30 minutes late for your appointment, it will also be necessary to reschedule your appointment for a later date.
After Hours and Emergencies
If you need to reach your physician after hours, please call the UAB Department of Neurology Answering Service at (205) 934-5690. If you do not know your physician's name, please call UAB Paging at (205) 934-3411 and ask for the Neurology resident on call. If this is a true medical emergency, call 911 for immediate assistance.
What to Bring with You
When you come to your appointment, please bring your insurance card, your physician referral (if applicable), and any pertinent medical information/medical records related to your condition. These records include:
- Hospitalization records
- Reports of tests/labs that have been previously performed
- Any films from diagnostic tests that have been performed, including CT or MRI scans, Angiograms, EKG, EEG or Ultrasounds (bring actual MRI films and EEG paper samples or CD if possible).
- Outpatient medical records from your referring physician
It is extremely important that you secure the documents outlined above and bring them with you to your clinic visit. Having this information provides a comprehensive picture to your physician, resulting in more complete and timely care for you.
Some insurance providers may require a referral or pre-certification before seeing a specialist of this nature. Please be sure to bring a copy of this referral or pre-certification with you for insurance/billing purposes. If you are unsure of what your insurance company requires, please contact them in advance of your appointment and they will be happy to answer any of your questions. Your co-pay is expected at the time of your visit; however, our financial counselors are available to discuss any problems or special circumstances. Our financial counselors may be reached Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at (205) 801-9910.
Depending on your physician, your lab results will be discussed with you on your return visit, mailed to your home, or called to you by a member of our staff. Although it may take up to 2 weeks to receive the results of some specific tests that may be ordered, please be aware that any emergent abnormal lab or test values will be relayed to you by your physician as soon as the results are obtained. If you have any questions regarding your lab results, please contact your physician’s office directly.
To obtain a refill for any medications prescribed by this clinic, please contact your physician’s office directly.
In addition to the patients that we treat in our clinic, our physicians are also responsible for the care of the patients admitted to University Hospital. Due to medical emergencies often related to this specialty, conflicts in the clinic schedule or unexpected cancellations may occur. Many of our patients living outside of the Birmingham area call on the morning of their appointment to verify their physician’s availability; we gladly welcome your calls and questions regarding this matter.
Patients with Limitations
Patients visiting The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital may take advantage of convenient parking in the deck adjacent to the Clinic. Located at 2100 6th Avenue South, the parking deck is connected to the second floor of The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital by a weatherproof sky bridge. High top van access is restricted to the first floor of the clinic parking deck. Therefore, patients arriving in high top vans and requiring wheelchair assistance should be dropped off at the front door of the clinic before the driver parks the vehicle. Valet parking is available on Level 2 of the deck; wheelchairs and additional assistance are located here as well.
