UAB Medicine

Gynecologic Oncology Clinic

When a woman faces a cancer diagnosis, it can be a difficult time for her and her family. And women’s cancers – breast, cervical, uterine and ovarian – require extra special care because of their sensitive nature.

Our multidisciplinary team of experts provides comprehensive, compassionate care for women with gynecologic cancers and assists with the physical and emotional challenges associated with gynecologic cancer, designing a treatment plan customized to each patient’s individual needs.

We utilize state-of-the-art technology to screen for and treat all types of gynecologic cancers, and our research team is dedicated to improving treatments, and, ultimately, finding a cure for these cancers. UAB is nationally regarded for our care of patients affected by gynecologic cancers. We have been recognized as one of the leading gynecologic oncology research divisions in the world.

The UAB Women & Infants Center aims to be a leader in cancer treatment for women all over the region. Our state-of-the-art facility, paired with leading gynecologic oncologists, provides women of the region with the best care available.

It is difficult to be away from home during cancer treatments, so the Women & Infants Center offers a comfortable, home-like environment for patients and their families. Each woman has a private room, complete with a large flat screen TV, mini refrigerator and private bathroom.
Families staying with their loved one during treatment will find hotel-like amenities, including family rooms with dining areas, a kitchenette, children’s play area, comfortable furniture and 42” TVs.

A pharmacy suite and consultation rooms close to patient rooms make it easy for women to get the medication and information they need while fighting cancer. Education rooms allow both patients and doctors to stay up to date on the latest cancer research.

What to Bring with You
When you come to your appointment, please bring your insurance card, all prescription and over the counter medications that you are currently taking, and any additional information that your referring physician has not already sent to our clinic.

Special Instructions
We kindly ask that you arrive at least 30 minutes before a new patient appointment to allow for adequate time for completing registration paperwork. Also, please allow 72 hours for obtaining a physician referral or pre-certification.

Payment Information
We accept most forms of insurance; however, check with us to make sure that your particular coverage is approved. When you visit, please bring the proper insurance identification cards so that we can submit your claims to your insurance company. If you are required to file personally for your company's insurance, we will provide you with all necessary forms to file your own claim. When your visit is completed, you will be expected to pay any charges that will not be reimbursed by insurance (e.g. co-payments and deductibles), unless you have made prior arrangements with one of our financial counselors. Because your insurance coverage is a contract between you and your insurance company, it is your responsibility to obtain any physician referral precertification that your insurance company requires in order for your visit to be covered.

Labs/Test Results
Please allow 2-4 weeks from the time of any labs or tests performed in this clinic for results to be completely processed. You will be notified of any normal test results either by telephone, mail, or at your next office visit. Please be aware that any emergent abnormal lab or test values will be relayed to you by your physician as soon as the results are obtained.
