Wound Care-Overview

The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Program at UAB is located in the Russell Clinic. The Program is under the direction of physicians specializing in wound management and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.  Our focus is the management and healing of chronic wounds.  We manage conditions such as diabetic foot ulcers, osteomyelitis, non-healing surgical wounds, venous ulcers, arterial ulcers, burns and radiation tissue damage. Advanced therapeutic wound healing technologies, including surgical and non-surgical treatments, drives the path to healing for this out-patient service.    

We provide a multidisciplinary approach to healing with services including:

  • Comprehensive evaluation of wounds
  • Diagnostic testing
  • Surgical debridement
  • Infection control
  • Revascularization
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
  • Diabetic education
  • Nutritional assessments
