While the majority of pregnancies go smoothly, many can become high-risk without the mother realizing it. Because complications can accompany pregnancy, UAB offers Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialists who are skilled at caring for women during this important time.
The Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialists at UAB are available 24 hours a day. MFM specialists at UAB have access to treatments that are often not yet available elsewhere. These treatments can reduce the chance of a recurrent preterm birth by one-third to one-half.
The UAB Maternal-Fetal Medicine program is one of the country’s most advanced and is one of only 14 centers nationwide to participate in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Nework. The network has helped produced groundbreaking achievements in high-risk pregnancy research.
Patients at UAB have access to some of the most advanced care including first trimester diagnosis, genetic testing and counseling, leading-edge ultrasound and fetal imaging.
