Living with Cancer Classes
For most people with cancer, living with the disease is the biggest challenge they have ever faced. The disease changes your routines, roles and relationships. The Comprehensive Cancer Center hosts a monthly series of cancer-related talks entitled Living with Cancer. These talks are designed to help patients navigate the challenges of their cancer journey and to provide opportunities to learn from and interact with UAB professionals including oncology nurses, physicians, therapists, dietitians, and financial advisors.

Too often cancer patients lose their sense of taste during treatment - which can have a serious impact on nutrition and social relationships. The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, Virginia College and Cooking with Cancer, Inc., have come together to offer patients and their families a series of cooking classes with simple recipes designed to re-awaken taste buds and appetites. Join Dr. Luis Pineda and Chef Jared Danks for an evening of cooking demonstrations and tastings in the professional kitchens of Culinard.
New Program: Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfulness meditation is a complementary therapy for treating chronic pain, anxiety, stress and sleeping problems. Meditation is one of several relaxation methods found to be of benefit by an independent panel convened by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In fact, in a controlled study of ninety cancer patients who practiced mindfulness meditation for 7 weeks, 31% had fewer symptoms of stress and 65% had fewer episodes of mood disturbance than those who did not meditate.
To help you cope better, we are developing an exciting new mindful meditation program for cancer patients, caregivers and survivors. For information on any of these programs or to register, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 205.934.5772.
