Gynecologic Cancer Overview

The UAB Division of Gynecologic Oncology is a multidisciplinary team of specialty physicians, nurses, and consultants providing comprehensive, compassionate care in treating women’s cancers. Each year, UAB treats more than 2,500 women battling cancer diagnoses such as:

As part of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Division of Gynecologic Oncology assists women with the physical and emotional challenges associated with gynecologic cancer. Our experts design customized treatment plans for each patient’s individual needs and use the latest technology to screen for and treat all types of women’s reproductive cancers. Our research team is dedicated to improving treatments and ultimately finding a cure for these cancers.

Because our physicians are board-certified gynecologic oncologists with training in surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, you can be assured that as a patient at UAB, you will receive the best care possible. We work with specialists in other areas when necessary to provide you with a comprehensive approach to your treatment.

UAB is nationally renowned for our care of patients with women’s cancers. We have been recognized as one of the leading gynecologic oncology research divisions in the world. We were one of five institutions to be awarded a Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) in ovarian cancer by the NIH and currently have partnered with Johns Hopkins in a cervical cancer SPORE.
