Family Medicine Overview
Family Medicine at UAB offers primary care for patients of all ages and treats a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions while having access to all of UAB’s specialists and technology.
Some conditions treated by Family Medicine at UAB include:
- Acute conditions such as:
- Infections (lung, bladder, kidney, etc.)
- Rashes
- Strains
- Sprains
- Minor injuries
- Chronic conditions such as:
- Hypertension
- Diabetes
- Asthma
- Arthritis
- Long-term care management of illness or disease
Services provided by Family Medicine at UAB include:
- Annual health evaluations
- Physical exams
- Preventive care, including health screening and physical exams for individuals of all ages
- Routine care for women, including pap smears, pelvic, and breast exams
- Well-child care
- Gynecologic care
- Flu shots and routine immunizations
- Treatment of minor injuries
- Incision and drainage of simple abscesses
- Repair of minor wounds and cuts
- Routine tests such as EKGs and spirometry
- Referral to UAB specialists for complicated tests (MRI, CT, ultrasound, etc.)
- On-site laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy services available
