Adult Onset Diabetes (Type 2) - Overview

Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and the most common endocrine disorder. Type 2 Diabetes is the most common type and occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or if the body cannot use the insulin properly. Type 2 Diabetes affects millions of adults and children, and many more who remain undiagnosed.

UAB’s Multidisciplinary Comprehensive Diabetes Clinic (MCDC) provides services unique in Alabama and available at only a few centers in the nation.  It is staffed by endocrinologists, ophthalmologists, orthopaedic surgeons, nutritionists and social workers to give our patients the best experience possible.
