Community

Community is important to UAB. We are a vibrant professional community inside the 86 city blocks, encompassing more than 250 buildings, including a world-renown academic medical center and thriving undergraduate and graduate college campus. But our community extends past the “campus limits” of UAB into the city of Birmingham, surrounding cities and state. We are part of the communities where our patients live and our medical staff is trained.

Serving the community is a commitment UAB and its employees actively support. Our employees raise money for various charities each year and serve in the community, including tutoring children. While a number of our employees’ charitable acts will be covered in the news, you will never hear about many other acts of kindness, such as a UAB patient care unit providing a warm coat for a patient.

Teamwork

As a member of the UAB Health System, employees are part of a large, diverse community of health care providers and staff who share values, goals and priorities. All of us work together to keep our commitment to providing the highest quality of health care. Whether an employee works for UAB Hospital, Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital, the Health Services Foundation, or any other UAB Health System entity, they are one of the team. It’s critical that each of us maintain our professional standards in all that we do to present the best impression to patients and visitors and help create a great work environment. Our “Work Together” spirit helps us find win-win solutions and build consensus. Each employee must play their valuable role on the team to the best of their ability so that UAB can be the best it can be.
